The only positive about the late “he could be alive” ploy was that she became suspicious of Andrew. But Emily’s judgment could not be trusted. It did add to the pain Emily had to endure, but otherwise, it was just weird to have this idea come up so late in the game.Īlso, I love an amateur sleuth novel, likely because I sometimes see myself as an amateur sleuth. We already had the forgery mysteries, a suspicious death, and tons of drama/content adding this aspect and plotline felt unnecessary. Late in the novel, Andrew tries to (and successfully does) convince Emily that Philip may be alive. ![]() While I really, really enjoyed the characters and diving into the forgeries mystery, some parts of the narrative felt weird and/or unnecessary. Alexander definitely delivers in spades when it comes to seamlessly weaving in historical details and facts. I am also realizing that I really love historical fiction that includes historical details and facts in fun, genius ways (#nerd). I fell in love with the cast of characters in And Only to Deceive, especially Philip. As usual, one of my favorite aspects is the characters. ![]()
